Breeders Cup 2014 – Friday Plays

We had a banner year in 2013 but the posts didn’t make the blog so we will get on record this year.

Friday’s strategy is all about selective wagers in an effort to bolster the bankroll for tomorrow’s bonanza. There are many races for which I have no real strong opinion and will pass.

I have no idea how the track will play so keep an eye on the bias early adjust accordingly. Last year’s bias, along with Gary Stevens DQ ride cost me a few sheckles.

First post today is 2:25 EST

Let’s get right to it.

My 2 best bets of the day are:

Race 2: Las Vegas Marathon

The 7, Sky Kingdom is the class of the field and has the tactical speed to sit off what looks to be a hot pace, even for a marathon distance. If the pace is super hot the 8 and 9 horses, 2 longshots, have a chance to pick up the pieces late, so I will throw in exactas.

Win bet 7 – Sky Kingdon – 5-1

Ex Box – 7-8-9

Race 10 – Allowance

The 9, Demonic, could get the perfect set up as all the speed in this heat gives him a tactical advantage. He won at this distance and is 1 for 1 over the track. The trainer is pretty high on this horse’s talent and we should get decent value based on the flop in his return race at Delmar in august. The other closer is the 6, Rprettyboyfloyd, has hit the board in 6 of 7 efforts at SA. Turn back should work to his favor. I will toss in 2 speeds for the ex box as one of them may hold up if the pace is not taxing.

Win bet – 9 – Demonic – 8-1

Ex box – 9-6-2

Ex box – 9-6-3

Ex box – 9-8

My two best longshot plays are:

Race 1 –

In a wide open turf sprint down the hill why not take a chance on the 10, Margie’s Minute, who is making her turf debut. Offspring of hard spun like the turf and could be on lead alone or sit just off, in a field lacking pace.

Win bet – 10 Margies Minute – 15-1

Blow up the board exacta box:

2-10-13

2-10-5

Race 3 – Juv Filly

In a lackluster field, I always say go with the horse who could be on the lead. These 2 yo fillies look pretty weak so I will take a flyer on a horse who has the best pace figs (by far) and go with the 6, Joylicious. Send jockey will gun to lead and hope to hold on for the 7 F.

Win bet – 6 – Joylicious -12-1

Ex box – 4-6

Ex box 6-7

Two other races worth a small wager are:

Race 5 – Damascus

Win bet 11 – Bahamian Squall – 4-1

Ex box 9-11-12

Race 7 – Dirt Mile

Win bet 4 – Pants on Fire – 6-1

Ex box 4-7-8

Ex box 1-4

Good Luck
